What exactly is wine consulting ?

By the time I asked myself this question, I discovered I was already doing it. The past few years for me have involved an almost obsessive interest in wine, resulting in a constant and rotating pile of books in my living room and a basket full of corks that receives comment from nearly everyone who visits my home. Several years in the industry has also provided me with extensive experience tasting and sourcing wine, as well as ample connections, making navigation and discovery within the world of wine much easier.

My intent: by offering consulting services is to educate, share, and assist others in the discovery of the magic of wine. It's that simple. If you have recently put a cellar in your home and are now faced with the daunting task of filling it with wine, I can help.

The Process: During our first meeting I'll quickly get two important questions answered: first, what is your budget, and two, how much wine are you looking to acquire? After this is covered, we can move on to the infinitely more interesting and exciting task of talking about wine. Typically at this point I'll host a tasting of a broad range of wines in order to familiarize myself with your particular tastes.

Once that has been done, I'm off to begin brainstorming and putting my ideas together for a personalized list of wines that will best suit you. During the acquisition phase, I will be in contact with you to be sure that all needs are met and that any questions that might arise are properly answered.

The Result: I unload, stack, fill, and organize the cellar (if you don't have a cellar, I'll help to find the most climate-friendly place to store your wines - we have lots of options here!). You will be left with a spreadsheet that provides details for all of the acquired wines, including tasting notes.

Follow up: I remain in contact and encourage your feedback about the wines, which helps me the next time my assistance is required. Of course, as personal wine consultant, I remain 'on call' and hope to see every relationship develop as each bottle is opened.
